The Story of a “Champion Dad”
At Karin Community Initiative Uganda, we believe that health is a family affair. For a long time, the sight of a man at an immunization clinic or a prenatal check-up was rare but the tide is turning.
During a recent immunization day at our facility, a local leader (LC1) and a young father arrived not just to observe, but to participate. Our team watched a beautiful moment as this father stood among the mothers, holding his baby close. When the little one began to cry after their vaccination, he didn’t hand the baby off; he stayed, comforted them, and took pride in being there for his child’s health journey. Our team took a picture of him and his baby.
The impact was immediate. One mother nearby was so moved by the sight that she declared, “Next time, I am making sure my husband comes along so our photo can be taken too!”
Male involvement is a cornerstone of our Prevention Month initiative. When men are involved; Maternal health outcomes improve; Children are more likely to complete their vaccination schedules, and the burden of care is shared, strengthening the entire family unit.

We don’t just want this to be a one-time event; we want it to be the new norm. Let’s celebrate the “Champion Dads” who are leading by example!
