Karin Unveils State-of-the-Art Laboratory at Unyama to Enhance Community Healthcare

I recently had the privilege of officiating the official opening of a new laboratory unit at one of our health centers. The event was graced by the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Gulu City, Ms Christine Okol, who shared a poignant personal story. Her own experience with medical negligence underscored the critical need for quality healthcare and the importance of this new facility. Witnessing the awe on the faces of our guests as they toured the lab, marveling at its size, equipment, and the competence of our staff, was truly heartwarming.
This well equipped laboratory represents a significant milestone in our mission. In her comment, it stands to be the best so far in Gulu City. However, it would not have been possible without the unwavering support of a truly remarkable couple: Dr. Roger and Mrs. Joan Sikkenga.
Years ago, Dr. Roger and Joan were deeply moved by the needs they witnessed during a visit to our organization. Their hearts were stirred, and they felt a calling to action. Inspired by their faith, they embarked on a journey of compassion, tirelessly fundraising to support our dedicated healthcare teams ensuring that our health and support team could continue serving those in need; provide access to essential medicines for our patients, bringing relief and healing to those who suffered and establish and equip this very laboratory, a testament to their generosity and the support of their friends and community.
Their unwavering commitment reflects the spirit of Matthew 25:40, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” Dr. Roger and John Sikkenga truly embodied this verse, extending a helping hand to those in need.
In recognition of their extraordinary contribution, we were honored to name the laboratory after them – the “Sikkenga Laboratory.” This serves as a lasting tribute to their unwavering faith and their dedication to improving the lives of others.
We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and the countless lives that have been touched by their generosity.
Sincerely
